Scotty has proven that he has the perfect knack for choosing cover songs to do live on his tour and the Opry. We've discussed this at various times in the past on IDF so I thought it'd be fun to bring it up again. It's funny, a lot of the songs that I always wanted to hear Scotty sing, he's already done it. "The Grand Tour" was one of them. So of course was "Hello Darlin." And some his live selections like "King of the Road" "The Dance" "Folsom Prison" were only list too.
Here are a few left that I would love to hear Scotty's take on... -Vern Gosdin "Chiseled in Stone" -George Jones "He Stopped Loving Her Today" -Keith Whitley "Don't Close Your Eyes" -Patsy Cline/Willie Nelson "Crazy" -Randy Travis "Forever and Ever Amen"
What are some of yours?

What are some of yours? I have two in particular that I want Scotty to cover or even re-record and put on an album. They are not really "country" songs per se but they are beautiful and he would absolutely nail them both, I think. 1. "Beautiful" by Gordon Lightfoot. 2. "Time In A Bottle" by Jim Croce. I have them in my MP3 player on my phone (and I have the albums they are on) and every time I hear these songs I think how great Scotty could sing them. I love him singing beautiful romantic songs. These songs are from the 70s but they are too wonderful for a new generation of music listeners not to hear them. Scotty and his producer could "countrify" these songs and make them really beautiful.

Kris kristophersen (sp) --Help Me Make it Through the Night, For the Good Times, (both are maybe too sexy right now) and especially Why Me Lord.
Waylon Jennings--Sweet Mental Revenge, Good Hearted Woman (really like the strong beat)\
Just a few--

One I would love to hear him sing is Three Wooden Crosses. Yes, that song just came to me as I was thinking about songs, but you beat me to the punch! "Three Wooden Crosses" by Randy Travis would be awesome!! Thinking about the duet Scotty did with Lauren yesterday at the fan club party, I would love Scotty to cover "'Til A Tear Becomes A Rose" by Keith Whitley and Lorrie Morgan. Lauren could do it or some other really good female country singer could do it with him, like maybe Kellie Pickler or Carrie Underwood, even Sara Evans.

While I was on the treadmill yesterday I was listening to songs on my iPod and when Why Me Lord came on I thought to myself, that's a perfect song for Scotty to cover. Great minds think alike!!

Scotty is an artist who can cover just about anything and make it sound great. Not many have that talent. Don't know of any of the newer 'stars' who performed at the CMA's this year that could cover anything as effectively/beautifully as Scotty has. The best part of the covers - they show just how much Scotty truly loves traditional country.
I would like to see him cover some Freddy Fender - Wasted Days and Wasted Nights, Before the Next Teardrop Falls. I know they are two very different voices but I think Scotty's cover of either of those songs would be pure magic.

I would love for Scotty to sing Keeper of The Stars by Tracy Byrd. Such a sweet love song and perfect for a certain young couple!

Recently Scotty sang "Chattahoochee" at a concert and it's one of the all time 90s Summer songs, perfect! Another 90's classic Summer song I'd love to hear Scotty cover at a show if only once or twice, is "Watermelon Crawl" by Tracy Byrd. I'm sure Scotty loves that one! I know it was one of my favorite songs as a kid.
